Statement About Our Commitment to Accessibility

2 July 2024

At Steps, we want everyone to feel comfortable and included. Which is why we use the social model of Disability. This means we realise that the emphasis is on us to remove all the barriers we can to give you the best experience possible.

As part of our commitment to Inclusion, we have been reflecting on what we need to do in order to understand how to support the different accessibility needs of our colleagues, associates and clients.

We have set up an internal Access Planning Group and our goals and actions are to:

  • Have a strong foundation in level 1 requirements of the UK Disability Confident Scheme and begin to work towards Level 2 in the future
  • Support a sense of shared accountability for considering access in all that we do and be inclusive by design
  • Implement best practice across the whole organisation
  • Build awareness of how to design accessible programmes, working with experts and associates with lived experience
  • Review our templates and documents
  • Review our internal systems and technology/software
  • Be committed to authentic casting
  • Increase representation of Disabled people/people with Disabilities on all our programmes
  • Research and provide rates for access provisions so that these may be costed to clients

We have made a commitment to accessibility for everyone who works with and for us and we will be held accountable by our Global Board where we will be presenting our progress quarterly. We have an important responsibility for ensuring a safe, dignified, and welcoming environment for everyone. We recognise the importance of the provision of equal opportunities and therefore we promote equal treatment for all employees and extend our aspiration to be an inclusive employer across all characteristics of difference.
