Diversity, Values & Vision

With the cultural landscape becoming ever more diverse, it is vital that organisations help their employees to pull together as one and to value both their differences and their similarities. This realisation is promoting a growing focus on the issues of diversity, respect, inclusion and unconscious bias.

"Drama-based training was much more effective than simply giving people a lecture on the merits of diversity..."
Justin Hutchence, Project Officer

We are the market leaders in developing interactive diversity training.  Our clients in this field include major investment banks, retail organisations, government bodies, universities and NHS Trusts.  Programmes are tailored to suit the needs of your organisation.  We are also increasingly looking beyond the first layer of diversity awareness, helping clients to embed inclusivity and respect and challenge damaging micro-inequities and unconscious bias.

Diversity not only covers headline issues such as gender, age, nationality, religion, ethnicity, cultural background, physical abilities, and sexual orientation, but also less obvious issues such as work-life balance, communication style, work style, family status and organisational role.

How can acknowledgement of these aspects of difference make a commercial or performance impact to an organisation?

Our approach

Steps looks at the moral, legal and, most importantly, the business case for Diversity, by exploring, through interactive scenarios, how working relationships can be made more effective through awareness and understanding of Diversity.

We concentrate on the subtleties, the grey areas of Diversity; challenging people’s assumptions and unconscious biases, using humour to engage and provoke thought, thus questioning their own working relationships.

The business case for diversity is based on the positive benefits it can bring - an increase in staff retention and overall employee satisfaction.  In turn, this can lead to greater motivation, productivity, innovation and creativity.

“Drama-based training was much more effective than simply giving people a lecture on the merits of diversity.  Steps have a good deal of knowledge, experience and capability and their approach enables you to cover sensitive issues in a relatively short space of time.”
Justin Hutchence, Project Officer    University of Reading

“Drama is an entertaining and memorable medium which can bring out very serious learning messages.  Steps have a very good team and they were responsive and extremely helpful.”
Dale Gunstone, Learning and Development Manager   Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi
